Resources in eLibraryMN and EbooksMN have unlimited simultaneous user access and are freely available to anyone geolocated in Minnesota. Step 1: You must be in an article for the functions to work- they are not available in the general interface. After you search for an article and click into it, Click on the 'online full text' option.
Step 2 Once in the article, click on the globe icon in the top right and choose the language you want.
Step 3: You can now download this article in the translated langague as a PDF and share it with students as needed by clicking the PRINT (Not download) button in the top right corner and saving as PDF.

Resources below are recommended by MDL curators from partners in primary source history.
The YMCA provided English language classes at the turn of the 20th century to help immigrants communicate with their neighbors and also become citizens.
One hundred years later, community organizations like the Hmong Cultural Center also provided language classes to new arrivals who spoke languages other than English.
Students at Dakota Missions used this classroom instruction guide to learn words in the Dakota language.
This Norwegian-language report card shows how some community schools were conducted entirely in languages other than English.
The children and grandchildren of immigrants wanted to learn the language of their ancestors later in the twentieth century, and heritage classes were quite popular.
The Hmong Cultural Center published this collection of traditional folk tales with illustrations for circulation at their community library.
Interview with Juanita R. Moran
Juanita Rangel de Moran was born in 1921 in Aguascalientes, Mexico and moved to St. Paul with her family in 1928. In this interview, she spoke in Spanish about her family, her childhood, moving to Minnesota, and her experiences in St. Paul’s Mexican-American community. Interview with Anangookwe (Marlene Stately)
Leech Lake elder Anangookwe (Marlene Stately) spoke in Ojibwe, her first language, for a television series on the history and culture of Lake Superior Anishinaabe. Many interviews in this collection were conducted in the original language of immigrants to this state, including Hmong and Spanish.
Interlibrary Loan/Resource Sharing
For in depth research into these topics, sometimes you need to request materials from other libraries. These can be digital or they can sometimes be printed books. There are two main options for requesting these materials. One, MNLINK, allows you to search all Minnesota libraries for the requires the use of a public library card and PIN. While many educators use their own library card to help students, it is recommended that students use their own. However, this is not always possible, so there is a second option: Minitex Resource sharing for schools. This allows one staff member per school to request items on behalf of students and have the items sent directly to the school building.
